SRINAGAR: Hours after the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge met with the National Conference leadership to discuss a potential pre-poll alliance for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, a pre-poll alliance between the two parties was announced for all 90 assembly segments.
Addressing media at his Gupkar residence, JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah said that they will issue mandate list in phased manner.
“Jammu and Kashmir has seen difficult times; now we are hopeful for the restoration of statehood. Both NC and Congress will fight the elections together to defeat the divisive forces,” Abdullah said.
Regarding the alliance with PDP, he said that the doors are open to everyone.
Abdullah further said, “CPI(M)’s (MY) Tarigami is also with us. I hope our people are with us too and that we win with a huge majority to improve the lives of the people.”
Asked about Gandhi’s assurance earlier in the day that it was the priority of the Congress and the INDIA bloc to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah expressed hope that full statehood with all powers would be restored.
