SRINAGAR: The authorities announced on Monday that over 8,000 aspirants from across Jammu and Kashmir will soon be leaving to perform Hajj 2024. They said that some applications were rejected due to expired passports.

Executive officer JK Haj committee, Dr Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, while providing details at a media briefing in Haj House Bemina said that around 8,017 Hajj pilgrims have been selected from Jammu and Kashmir.

He explained that only 8,017 applications were accepted, with some rejected due to expired passports. “The total quota for Jammu and Kashmir is 6,838, with an additional 2,000 special quota spots, making a total of 8,838.”

“Now, the next step is the publication of the selection list and the message generation for pilgrims whose names have been added to the provisional selection list, after which they will have to submit the first instalment,” said Dr Qureshi.

He further added, “This year, a total of 155,000 Hajj pilgrims are scheduled to leave from India. Notifications about the first instalment will be released in two to three days, preparing pilgrims for Hajj 2024.” (KNO)
