SRINAGAR: The Udhampur police has successfully foiled a major attempt at narcotics smuggling near Chenani in Jammu and Kashmir.
The law enforcement officials seized approximately 222 kilograms of a substance resembling “poppy straw” from the toolbox of a vehicle at Motorshed, NHW, Chenani. The police not only intercepted the illicit cargo but also apprehended the narco-smuggler, who was found in possession of nine bags containing the aforementioned “poppy straw.”
Opium and poppy straw, derived from the opium poppy plant, serve as the primary raw materials for the extraction of alkaloids like morphine, thebaine, and codeine.
Shedding light on the operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police sai, “A specially fabricated chamber was detected in the toolbox of the vehicle inside which 09 bags filled with the poppy straw-like substance were recovered.”
