Jammu and Kashmir: Srinagar Freezes at -5.1°C, Sonamarg Coldest at -9.8°C

   

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir region experienced a biting cold wave as temperatures plummeted below freezing across most areas.

Srinagar recorded a low of -5.1°C, while Qazigund was even colder at -6.4°C. Pahalgam saw a sharp drop to -8.4°C, and Kupwara registered -5.5°C. Kokernag recorded -3.4°C, whereas Gulmarg experienced a frosty -6.5°C.

Sonamarg emerged as the coldest in the region at -9.8°C, followed closely by Larnoo at -8.8°C. Bandipora and Budgam recorded lows of -4.2°C and -4.6°C, respectively, while Baramulla saw a slightly milder -2.9°C. Other notable temperatures include Pulwama at -5.3°C, Anantnag at -6.2°C, Khudwani at -6.1°C, Kulgam at -5.8°C, and Shopian at -8.3°C. Data for Ganderbal remains unavailable.

Jammu recorded a relatively mild 7.2°C. Other areas showed significant variations, with Banihal at -0.6°C and Batote at 2.6°C. Katra and Reasi registered 6.0°C and 5.9°C, respectively. Bhaderwah and Kishtwar recorded lows of -0.4°C and 1.1°C, while Padder dropped to a chilly -8.0°C. Ramban experienced 5.4°C, with Poonch and Rajouri recording 2.5°C and 1.3°C, respectively. Samba and Kathua were slightly warmer at 4.0°C and 7.1°C, while Udhampur saw a minimum of 5.8°C.

In the Ladakh region, the cold was even more extreme. Leh recorded a bone-chilling -9.0°C, while Kargil saw temperatures plummet to -12.7°C. Drass remained the coldest spot, registering a frigid -22.4°C. (Kashmir Weather)
