According to a Crime Branch handout, the chargesheet has been presented before the Court of Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate, Jammu, in connection with FIR No. 03/2024 registered under Section 420 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) at Police Station Crime Branch (EOW), Jammu.

The accused has been identified as Dr Liaqat Ali Khan, a resident of Gujjar Nagar, Jammu.

The case originated from a written complaint filed by Johar Hafeez, who alleged that Khan claimed to have influential contacts in the Civil Secretariat and assured him of an appointment as a Junior Assistant in the Health Department in return for money. The accused allegedly collected Rs 5.50 lakh from the complainant on this assurance.

During the investigation, conducted by Inspector Taranjeet Singh, statements of the complainant, bank officials and other witnesses were recorded. The investigation also established, through banking records, that Rs 5.50 lakh had been transferred from the complainant’s account to the accused’s account, the handout said.

The Crime Branch further stated that Khan is a dental doctor and has allegedly been named in several other cases registered with the EOW Jammu.

Investigators said oral, documentary and electronic evidence, including bank statements, transaction records, electronic chat communications and service records, supported the allegation of cheating under Section 420 RPC. The chargesheet has been submitted for judicial examination.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch EOW Jammu, urged people to exercise caution against fraudsters offering government jobs in exchange for money.
