Jammu Kashmir Allocated 17,862.78 MT Fortified Rice for Nutrition of Malnourished Girls, Pregnant Women

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has been allocated 17,862.78 metric tonnes of fortified rice under the Wheat Based Nutrition Programme and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls in 2025–26, according to official data tabled in the Lok Sabha.

The Union Territory has also received 571.96 MT of fortified rice under the adolescent girls’ nutrition component.

The Union Government said supplementary nutrition is being provided to children aged six months to six years, pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls through Saksham Anganwadi and Mission Poshan 2.0. The programme delivers hot cooked meals and take-home rations, supported by subsidised foodgrains including wheat, fortified rice and millets.

Across India, 7,79,566.98 MT of wheat, 8,88,388.89 MT of fortified rice, 11,989.98 MT of ragi and 8,967.33 MT of jowar have been provided to States and Union Territories so far in 2025–26. The quantities differ under the two schemes, with several States receiving additional allocations for adolescent girls.

The Ministry also reported the number of Aadhaar-verified beneficiaries. In Jammu and Kashmir, 44,285 pregnant women and 25,271 adolescent girls have received benefits in 2025–26. The UT had 48,970 pregnant women and 24,905 adolescent girl beneficiaries in 2024–25; 45,550 and 19,266 respectively in 2023–24; and 38,527 and 14,533 in 2022–23.

Nationally, more than 68 lakh pregnant women and over 18 lakh adolescent girls have benefited so far in the current financial year. The Ministry said the nutrition programme continues to operate through Anganwadi centres, with focus on improving coverage, quality of food distribution and monitoring through the Poshan Tracker.
