SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned on Monday after BJP legislators entered the well of the House and protested against the National Conference-led government shortly after the Autumn Session began.
The BJP members raised slogans targeting the Omar Abdullah-led government, disrupting proceedings despite interventions from Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
As the protest continued, the House witnessed an uproar, following which the Speaker adjourned the proceedings amid continued sloganeering by the opposition legislators.
The BJP had identified employment, outsourcing, regularisation of daily-wage workers, electricity tariffs and concerns of National Health Mission employees among the issues it planned to raise during the session.
Earlier, BJP legislators had displayed placards seeking action on NHM employees’ concerns, withdrawal of the increased power tariff and regularisation of daily-wage workers.
The seven-sitting Autumn Session is scheduled to continue from September 21 to 30, with the BJP and PDP expected to raise issues relating to governance, employment, reservation and public services.
