SRINAGAR: A special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is underway, summoned in the backdrop of Pahalgam Terror attack.
The Deputy Chief Minister tabled a resolution. The session saw participation from several members, including MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, who raised concerns about the current situation in the region.
Speaking during the session, Tarigami questioned the absence of key figures responsible for the security apparatus. He said, “You called the House, but you did not call those whose hands control the security apparatus of Jammu and Kashmir, as they themselves have said.” He added, “I was asking — is there any man today to answer me, whom should I ask? Where should I ask my question?”
Tarigami criticised the role of the media, saying that public discourse quickly shifts to religious debates instead of focusing on the security and safety of citizens. “It is not that religion is in danger. The real danger is to the common citizens living in India. We, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, are in danger,” he said.
He called for serious efforts to address the concerns of the people. “Will my small voice reach Delhi? Even now, there is a need to seriously address this. The people of Jammu and Kashmir and their representatives must be included in the reconciliation and decision-making process,” he said. Tarigami warned that without such efforts, any steps taken might not be sustainable.
He further said, “It is the responsibility of every citizen and every government to protect the children and people of Jammu and Kashmir. Otherwise, we will fail, and without taking corrective steps, those who have snatched away the lives of our own will succeed.”
