SRINAGAR: IAS officer Syed Abid Rashid Shah, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, has been assigned the additional charge of the Health and Medical Education Department in Chandigarh as a temporary arrangement until the return of the incumbent officer.

A 2012-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Abid is presently serving as Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Chandigarh Administration, besides holding the post of Managing Director of the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO).
The additional responsibility has been entrusted to him to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the Health and Medical Education Department during the absence of the regular officer.
Abid was relieved from his duties in Jammu and Kashmir by the General Administration Department on February 20, 2026, following his posting to the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Officials said he will continue to perform his existing responsibilities while simultaneously overseeing the affairs of the Health and Medical Education Department until further orders are issued.
