SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday called for greater investment in Global Capability Centres (GCCs), highlighting the Union Territory’s skilled workforce, educational institutions and improving connectivity as key strengths for attracting technology-driven businesses and creating employment opportunities for local youth.
The Chief Minister delivered his address virtually at the J&K Global Capability Centres Summit 2026, being held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.
The two-day event, organised by IIM Jammu in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), has brought together more than 300 global industry leaders, policymakers and academics to explore opportunities for developing the region into a centre for technology and knowledge-based industries.
Abdullah emphasised that the availability of educated young people, established academic institutions, competitive operating costs, improved connectivity and quality of life could help Jammu and Kashmir attract global enterprises and retain skilled professionals.
He said GCCs could provide local talent with access to international opportunities, expand exposure to advanced skills and create avenues for high-quality employment, while supporting sustained economic growth.
The Chief Minister also assured prospective investors of the government’s support, including single-window facilitation and a policy framework intended to encourage investment and establish a sustainable GCC ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
The summit aims to bring industry stakeholders and policymakers together to examine the region’s potential for expanding technology-based services and knowledge-led economic activity.
