SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has received an allocation of Rs 154.38 crore under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) during the last three years and the current financial year, with 848 development works completed so far, according to data placed before the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
As per the state-wise details annexed to a written reply by Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh, MPs from Jammu and Kashmir recommended 1,846 works involving Rs 79.74 crore during the period. Of these, 1,671 works worth Rs 66.24 crore were sanctioned.
The data showed that 823 works worth Rs 43.03 crore are currently under progress, while Rs 36.29 crore has been disbursed to vendors for works under the scheme.
The figures were part of the government’s response to a Rajya Sabha question on the implementation of MPLADS. The Ministry said it had conducted a third-party physical evaluation of MPLADS works completed between April 2019 and March 2024 across 504 nodal districts.
At the national level, the evaluation found that 94.56 per cent of sampled assets were functional and 82.27 per cent were properly maintained. It also found that 86.72 per cent of works were completed within the prescribed 365-day period.
The government said delays in implementation could occur due to incomplete proposals, local disputes, land availability and site feasibility issues, statutory clearances and other technical or administrative constraints at the district level.
