SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has received Rs 171.25 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) during 2024-25 and 2025-26, with 397 health infrastructure projects approved across the Union Territory to strengthen primary, laboratory and critical care services, the Union Government informed Parliament on Friday.
Replying to a starred question in the Lok Sabha, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said PM-ABHIM is aimed at strengthening India’s public health system by expanding health infrastructure and enhancing preparedness for pandemics and other public health emergencies.
According to the Minister, Jammu and Kashmir has been sanctioned 79 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (U-AAMs), 287 Block Public Health Units (BPHUs), 20 Integrated Public Health Laboratories (IPHLs) and 10 Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme component of PM-ABHIM.
The Government said 55 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are already functional, while work is under way on three more. Of the sanctioned 287 Block Public Health Units, 20 have become functional and 267 are under construction or strengthening. Similarly, three Integrated Public Health Laboratories are operational and 17 are under development, while work is in progress on nine of the 10 approved Critical Care Blocks.
Financial data placed before Parliament showed that Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 60.44 crore in Central assistance during 2024-25 and Rs 49.69 crore during 2025-26. The Union Territory reported expenditure of Rs 63.71 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 89.56 crore in 2025-26, including spending from Central releases, State contributions and unspent balances carried forward.
Nationally, the Centre has accorded administrative approval of Rs 32,961.10 crore under the mission for establishing or strengthening 11,001 Building-less Sub Health Centre-Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 5,456 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 2,151 Block Public Health Units, 744 Integrated Public Health Laboratories and 631 Critical Care Blocks across States and Union Territories.
The Minister said implementation of PM-ABHIM is the responsibility of State and Union Territory governments, while the Centre monitors progress through monthly reviews, National Programme Coordination Committee meetings, the Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework and annual Common Review Missions to ensure timely execution and accountability.
