SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has received Rs 307.63 crore in central financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana since 2023-24, while 40,620 households in the Union Territory have benefited from the scheme, according to data presented in the Lok Sabha.
The figures were provided by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in response to a starred question answered on August 12, covering progress under major renewable energy schemes up to July-August 2026.
The data showed that Jammu and Kashmir added 104.10 MW of rooftop solar capacity between 2023-24 and July 31, 2026. It also recorded 14.38 MW under small hydro power and 5 MW under biomass-related capacity, taking the total capacity addition across the listed renewable energy sources to 166.73 MW during the period.
Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar energy use in agriculture, Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 22.33 crore in central funds between 2023-24 and July 31, 2026.
The Union Territory had installed 4,873 solar pumps under Component-B of PM-KUSUM as of July 31, 2026. No installations were recorded under Component-C, according to the ministry data.
At the national level, 51,27,843 households had benefited from the PM Surya Ghar scheme as of August 10, 2026, while 28,38,970 irrigation pumps had been solarised under Components-B and C of PM-KUSUM as of July 31.
The ministry said both schemes are demand-driven and are being regularly monitored in coordination with states, power distribution companies, banks and other stakeholders. It also said higher central financial assistance has been provided under the schemes for northeastern states, hilly states and Union Territories and island Union Territories with relatively low renewable energy potential.
