SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved Rs 10.22 crore for developing a Tribal Tourism Village at Behri Qasab in Mendhar area of Poonch district.
The administrative approval has been granted under the Capex Budget 2026-27, with the project aimed at promoting the region’s tribal culture and heritage while improving tourism infrastructure.
The proposed tourism village will showcase the traditional lifestyle, cultural practices and heritage of tribal communities in the area and serve as an additional tourist attraction in Poonch.
According to the government, the project is also expected to generate employment and livelihood opportunities for local youth by encouraging their participation in tourism-related activities.
The initiative is aimed at integrating Behri Qasab and the wider Mendhar area into the broader tourism circuit of Jammu and Kashmir, while providing greater opportunities for local communities to benefit from tourism.
The project has been approved by the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
