The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS and CA) said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to address possible logistical and transportation disruptions caused by adverse weather and to safeguard food security across the Union Territory.

Under the arrangement, beneficiaries will be able to collect their entitled foodgrains for all three months through a single transaction. The department has directed that the entire distribution exercise be completed on or before August 31, 2026.

To facilitate the initiative, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), JK has been requested to enable a one-time transaction facility in electronic Point of Sale (e-PoS) devices for the distribution of foodgrains allocated for the three-month period.

The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs said the advance lifting and distribution of foodgrains would strengthen the department’s preparedness and enable an effective response to any situation arising during the monsoon season. He said the initiative would ensure the uninterrupted availability of foodgrains and protect the food security of eligible beneficiaries across the Union Territory.

The Commissioner Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, said the advance lifting, transportation and distribution of foodgrains would be carried out in close coordination with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) and the district administrations.

The department has directed the Directors of FCS and CA, Jammu and Kashmir, to personally monitor the lifting, transportation and distribution of the allocated foodgrains to ensure the exercise is completed within the stipulated timeline and that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of their entitlement.

Necessary instructions have also been issued to all concerned officers, Fair Price Shop dealers and other stakeholders to ensure the timely lifting, transportation and distribution of foodgrains, with the entire exercise scheduled for completion by August 31, 2026
