SRINAGAR: Following a Supreme Court ruling, the Jammu and Kashmir government has remitted the remaining prison sentences of five individuals serving life imprisonment. The convicts—Mohd Yousaf Shah, Des Raj, Suresh Kumar, Tarseem Lal, and Mohammad Bashir—were granted remission due to their good behaviour and regular reporting to the police.
The remission was issued in compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgement in the case of Mohammad Yousaf Shah & Others vs State of JK.The remission order takes effect from the date of the notification’s issuance.
The remission as per the notification is subject to certain conditions, including the maintenance of peace, good behaviour, and the obligation to report to the concerned police station periodically. The convicts must also refrain from any unlawful activities.
Moreover, the police will monitor their activities following their release.
