SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said there is currently no policy for allotting five marlas of land to families affected by the fire incident at Kadipora, Gajnag in Anantnag, where residential structures suffered extensive damage.
The government disclosed this in the Legislative Assembly in response to a starred question raised by Anantnag MLA Peerzada Mohammad Syed regarding the rehabilitation of the fire-affected families.
According to the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Chief Minister’s Relief and ex-gratia assistance have been released for the damaged structures.
The department said Rs 1 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Relief and Rs 1.20 lakh as ex-gratia relief had been released in favour of each damaged structure, including residential houses, in Kadipora, Gajnag.
The government was asked about the steps taken for rehabilitation of the affected families and the status of a proposal to allot five marlas of land to them, including the reasons for any delay.
In its reply, the department confirmed that residential houses had suffered extensive damage in the fire incident.
It said a District Level Committee was constituted through Order No. 19 of 2025 dated April 2, 2025 to verify the claims of the affected families.
After examining the claims, the committee observed that no policy was currently in force for allotment of five marlas of land to fire victims.
The government therefore did not indicate any approved proposal or timeline for allotment of land to the affected families.
The reply establishes that financial assistance has been provided for the damaged structures, while land allotment sought for the victims is not covered by an existing government policy.
The response was issued by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction on behalf of the Minister in charge.
