SRINAGAR: Intern doctors in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday warned of further protests over the delay in issuing a revised stipend order, alleging that the government had failed to honour its assurance on the matter.
A delegation of MBBS and BDS interns visited the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar to meet officials and seek an update on the pending order. The representatives said they were informed that the matter had been processed and forwarded to the concerned Secretary.
The interns said Health Minister Sakina Itoo had earlier asked them to wait for a week for the issuance of the order. However, they expressed disappointment over the continued delay and alleged that their concerns had not been addressed despite the assurance.
After the meeting, the delegation reached Pratap Park in Srinagar and briefed the media about the outcome of its visit.
The representatives said they would consult their team before deciding the future course of their protest. They warned that further action could follow if the revised stipend order was not issued.
The interns are demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000, citing the need for an early resolution of the issue.
