Jammu Kashmir Assembly Constitutes Financial Committees for 2026-27 Through Consensus

   

SRINAGAR: ‎ The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has constituted three key Financial Committees of the House for the year 2026-27 after political parties reached a consensus on the nomination of members, avoiding the need for elections.

According to a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat in Srinagar, the House had earlier adopted motions on March 27, 2026, regarding the election to the Committee on Public Accounts, Committee on Estimates and Committee on Public Undertakings.

Subsequently, a notification dated March 29, 2026 was issued under the relevant regulations governing elections to the Financial Committees according to the principle of proportional representation through single transferable vote. Additional Secretary of the JK Legislative Assembly, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, had been appointed as Returning Officer for conducting the process.

However, no member belonging to any political party filed nomination papers within the stipulated period.

The notification stated that a consensus was later evolved among legislature parties to nominate members in accordance with the principle of proportional representation for constituting the committees instead of holding elections.

“In relaxation of provisions contained in the regulations for conducting elections to the committees of the House according to the principle of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote, the following members are declared to serve on the three Financial Committees for the period ending March 31, 2027,” the notification issued by Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, said.

The Committee on Public Accounts will be headed by Surjeet Singh Slathia as Chairman. Other members include Mubarik Gul, Tariq Hameed Karra, Shamim Firdous, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo), Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi), Ranbir Singh Pathania, Choudhary Mohammed Akram, Vikram Randhawa and Tanvir Sadiq.

Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) has been appointed Chairman of the Estimates Committee. Members of the committee include Sham Lal Sharma, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, Mushtaq Guroo, Irshad Rasool Kar, Sajad Shaheen, Sunil Bhardwaj and Payare Lal Sharma.

The Public Undertakings Committee will be chaired by Mir Saifullah. Other members include Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani, Rajiv Jasrotia, Saif-ud-Din Bhat, Mian Mehar Ali, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, Arjun Singh Raju, Mohan Lal and Rafiq Ahmad Naik.

The committees will function till March 31, 2027.
