Scores of women activists gathered at the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters on MA Road and attempted to take out a march but were stopped by police.

The protesters demanded action against Ranjan over allegations that he used abusive language against junior JKAS officer Beenish Wani during a review meeting on Wednesday. They raised slogans in support of Wani.

The activists also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of facilitating “vote chori” through alleged mass deletions of voters during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They burnt his effigy and demanded his resignation.

They further called for action against those involved in the killing of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari, who worked at a resort in Uttarakhand and was murdered in 2022. Her parents staged a sit-in at India Gate in Delhi on Wednesday, demanding justice.
