SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) has urged the government to expedite pending placements and regularisation cases of mechanical engineering personnel and resume the recruitment process for Junior Engineers (Mechanical), which it said has remained pending for nearly a year.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Association raised concerns over delays in placements at various levels, including Chief Engineer (CE), Superintending Engineer (SE), Executive Engineer (XEN), Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and Assistant Engineer (AE).
It said the delays had affected career progression, cadre management and the utilisation of technical expertise in government departments.
The Association also called for the expansion of the Mechanical Engineering cadre in the Jal Shakti Department, Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD) and other relevant departments, stressing the need to address staffing requirements and strengthen technical capacity.
Highlighting the recruitment of Junior Engineers (Mechanical) through the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), the Association said the process had remained pending for nearly a year. It maintained that the delay had contributed to shortages of technical personnel and affected departmental functioning and the execution of essential public services.
The Association’s president has appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Roads and Buildings Minister Surinder Choudhary and Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department, Anil Kumar Singh, to intervene and issue directions for the time-bound resolution of the pending matters.
The Association said timely placements, regularisation of eligible engineers, expansion of the Mechanical Engineering cadre and completion of the recruitment process were necessary to address employees’ grievances and improve the delivery of public services.
It expressed hope that the government would take up the issues on priority and resolve the long-pending service matters through a time-bound process.
The Association said it remained committed to constructive engagement with the government to address the concerns of engineering professionals and strengthen institutional capacity across Jammu and Kashmir.
