SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti announced the immediate dissolution of the party’s organisational structure, with plans to form new office bearers and committees following consultations with senior leaders.
The announcement was made at the PDP headquarters in Srinagar on Friday. Mufti congratulated the National Conference-Congress alliance on securing the majority in the recently concluded Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on October 8, calling it the “people’s mandate.”
Reflecting on the outcome, Mufti said, “I am pleased with the way people have voted. There is no chance for any interference now. Had the mandate been unclear, there was a possibility of undermining the people’s will.”
The JK Assembly elections, held in three phases on September 18, 26, and October 1, resulted in the National Conference securing 42 seats, the BJP 29, the Congress 6, and the PDP 3.
During a press conference, Mufti acknowledged the challenging circumstances faced by the people since August 5, 2019, and expressed gratitude to PDP members for their dedication. She appealed to party workers to remain steadfast despite the hurdles encountered during the campaign. (KDC)
