SRINAGAR: Pension payments under several National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) schemes in Jammu and Kashmir remain behind schedule by up to five months, with payments to widow pensioners under IGNWPS made only up to April 2026, the government has said.
The Social Welfare Department said pension payments under the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) had been disbursed up to August 2026 and there was no pendency in those cases. ISSS beneficiaries account for about 90 per cent of all pension cases, according to the department.
However, beneficiaries covered under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) and indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) had received payments only up to June 2026.
Payments under the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) had been cleared only up to April 2026, leaving these beneficiaries further behind.
The department attributed the delay to the transition to SNA-SPARSH, which required integration of the NSAP-PPS portal with the Jammu and Kashmir Integrated Financial Management Information System (JKIFMIS).
The government said the integration is now functional and bills are being processed through the SNA-SPARSH system.
The information was provided in response to an unstarred question by Shamim Firdous, MLA from Habbakadal, seeking reasons for the delay in pension disbursement over the preceding eight months, particularly in Srinagar district, and asking when the pending payments would be released.
The department did not specify a date for clearing the outstanding NSAP pension payments, but said processing through the new system had commenced.
