Jammu Kashmir Police Crack Down on Drug Peddlers: Eight Arrested, Property Seized

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and peddling in the region. On Wednesday, police arrested eight drug peddlers across multiple districts in the Kashmir valley and seized contraband substances, while also attaching property worth Rs 15 lakh under the NDPS Act in a separate operation.

In Pattan, a police team intercepted a vehicle near Railway Crossing and arrested three individuals with 78 grams of contraband charas. The accused, identified as residents of Nillah Palpora and Pushwari Anantnag, were taken into custody, and their vehicle was seized.

In Baramulla, a man from Sopore was caught with 40 strips of banned tablets at a checkpoint near Cement Bridge. Meanwhile, in Kalaroos, a resident was found in possession of 4 grams of brown sugar-like substance during a routine check.

In Awantipora, a raid on a residential house led to the recovery of 20.5 kilograms of charas-like substance, and a woman from Larkipora was arrested. In Pulwama, two individuals were apprehended near Arihal crossing with 82 grams of brown sugar-like substance.

Separately, police in Handwara attached a two-storey building, including shops and a hall, belonging to a notorious drug peddler. The property was found to be illegally acquired through the trafficking of narcotics. The accused is currently detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.

Jammu and Kashmir Police urged the public to report drug-related activities and assured tough action against offenders.
