SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested four individuals in separate anti-drug operations across South Kashmir’s Anantnag, Kulgam, and Awantipora. In Anantnag, police at Hangalgund checkpoint apprehended Abid Husain Mir of Narupora and recovered over 10 kilograms of bhang patri and seeds. In Kulgam, police at Alstop Bypass intercepted Salman Sadiq Dar of Nai Basti, Anantnag, and seized 1.4 kg of cannabis leaves and 6.5 grams of charas-like substance. In Awantipora, police intercepted a load carrier at Gallander Pampore and arrested Javed Ahmed Sheikh of Sangam and Muzafar Ahmad Shalla of Bijbihara, recovering 1.265 kg of charas-like substance.
In a separate action, the Kulgam Police attached property worth Rs 19.89 lakh belonging to a known drug peddler, Mushtaq Ahmad Bagow of Redwani Payeen. The attached assets include a single-storey residential building and 20 marlas of land. He is implicated in two NDPS Act cases registered at Qaimoh Police Station. The attachment was made under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
In Anantnag, acting on a tip-off, Police Station Dooru conducted a search in village Shangran and recovered 16 kilograms of poppy straw from the residence of Ghulam Nabi Dar. The accused was arrested, and the contraband sealed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
Meanwhile, in Handwara, police conducted a destruction drive of illegally cultivated bhang in Unisoo, with support from the Excise Department, local numberdars, and residents. The area was cleared of contraband crops, and the community was sensitised about the legal implications and health risks of drug abuse and cultivation.
