Jammu Kashmir Police Receive Gallantry Awards, Late DSP Himayun Among Recipients

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and  Kashmir Police personnel have been honored with awards on Republic Day 2025.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs, there are 15 Gallantry Medals, two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 10 Medals for Meritorious Service.

Notable awardees from Jammu and Kashmir include Anand Jain, Additional Director General, Nitish Kumar, CID chief and former IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, and former SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal. The Gallantry Medals (GM) are awarded for exceptional bravery in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals, all while considering the risks involved in the line of duty.

In total, 95 Gallantry Medals were awarded, of which 28 went to personnel from Jammu & Kashmir, 28 from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 3 from the North-East, and 36 from other regions. Of the 95 Gallantry Medals, 78 were awarded to police personnel, while 17 went to fire service personnel. The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) recognises a special distinguished record in service, while the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) honours valuable service marked by dedication and resourcefulness. In total, 101 personnel received the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, with 85 from police services, 5 from fire services, 7 from civil defence and home guard services, and 4 from correctional services. Additionally, 746 personnel received the Medal for Meritorious Service, with 634 awarded to police personnel.

For Jammu and Kashmir, the awards include 15 Gallantry Medals, 2 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 10 Medals for Meritorious Service. Ladakh received 2 Medals for Meritorious Service.
