SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cautioned people against cyber fraud involving fake trading applications and fraudulent investment advertisements that promise unusually high returns to steal money and personal information.
According to the police advisory, fraudsters use misleading claims, including guaranteed profits of up to 30 per cent daily and promises to double investments within seven days, to lure people into investing through fraudulent platforms.
The advisory warns that such applications may appear genuine but are designed to deceive investors and obtain their money and sensitive information. After receiving investments, fraudsters may disappear or block victims from accessing them.
Police have urged people to verify the authenticity of investment applications, companies and websites before transferring money. They have also advised investors to remain cautious of unrealistic profit guarantees and pressure tactics intended to rush financial decisions.
The advisory further warns people against sharing personal information, banking credentials or one-time passwords (OTPs), and recommends using only verified and regulated investment platforms.
People have also been encouraged to consult family members, friends or financial experts before making investment decisions.
Those who fall victim to cyber fraud have been advised to call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or register a complaint through the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and verify investment opportunities before committing their money.
