SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police has cautioned people against connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks, warning that cybercriminals could exploit them to steal personal information, banking details and passwords.
In a public safety advisory, the police highlighted the risks associated with open Wi-Fi networks available at public places, including airports and cafes, urging users to exercise caution before connecting their devices.
The advisory warned that cybercriminals could access sensitive information, including names, addresses, financial details, login credentials, emails, private messages, photographs and other personal data.
To minimise the risk of cyber fraud, the police advised people to avoid public and unsecured Wi-Fi networks and use mobile data or trusted connections instead.
It also urged users to keep their devices and applications updated and remain vigilant before connecting to unfamiliar networks.
The police stressed the importance of responsible digital practices to protect personal information and reduce exposure to cyber threats.
