Speaking to the media at GMC Jammu after visiting injured survivors, LG Sinha said that 16 people are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition. “I hope they all recover soon. Many unfortunately lost their lives, and despite best efforts, bodies of several missing persons were retrieved. Still, 32 people are missing and rescue operations are underway,” he said.

The LG confirmed that Rs 4.13 crore in relief funds has already been distributed and reiterated the administration’s commitment to rehabilitation. “The Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir administration are fully committed to the welfare of the affected families,” he stated.

On the broader rainfall situation across the Union Territory, Sinha added that advisories have been issued and teams from SDRF and NDRF remain on alert. “Most parts are witnessing heavy rain. Such weather systems are affecting the entire country. I hope no major mishap occurs,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also directed departments to stay vigilant and prioritise essential services. In a post on X, the CM’s office said control rooms have been activated and drainage, water supply, and power restoration are being given top priority. “Rivers and nallahs are flowing above the danger mark in several areas. Departments are on high alert. People are advised to remain cautious,” the statement said.

Amid worsening weather conditions, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit Kishtwar if weather permits. Failing that, he may visit the injured at GMC Jammu, LG Sinha added. (KNC)
