SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir received Central financial assistance for three cultural infrastructure projects under the Financial Assistance for Building Grants including Studio Theatres scheme during 2024-25 and 2025-26, while no assistance was sanctioned for the Union Territory under the Tagore Cultural Complexes (TCC) scheme during the last three years, the Government informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
In a written reply to an unstarred question, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said Jammu and Kashmir received assistance for two organisations amounting to Rs 10 lakh in 2024-25 and one organisation receiving Rs 5 lakh in 2025-26 under the Building Grants scheme.
The Minister said the Ministry of Culture provides financial assistance for construction of buildings for cultural activities through two Central Sector Schemes—Financial Assistance for Building Grants including Studio Theatres and Financial Assistance for Tagore Cultural Complexes (TCC).
According to the reply, Jammu and Kashmir did not receive any financial assistance under the TCC scheme during 2023-24, 2024-25 or 2025-26.
Nationally, the Building Grants scheme supported 15 organisations with Rs 108.43 lakh in 2023-24, 23 organisations with Rs 150.09 lakh in 2024-25, and 17 organisations with Rs 96.41 lakh in 2025-26.
Under the TCC scheme, the Centre sanctioned assistance to four projects worth Rs 1,556 lakh in 2023-24 and one project worth Rs 300 lakh in 2024-25, while no project received funding in 2025-26.
Responding to a query on increasing the quantum of financial assistance, the Minister said the Ministry appraises its schemes from time to time on the basis of need, indicating that revisions are considered periodically rather than through a fixed policy.
