SRINAGAR: As many as 12,904 people in Jammu and Kashmir were trained and certified under the Ministry of Tourism’s Capacity Building for Service Providers (CBSP) scheme during the three financial years from 2023-24 to 2025-26, accounting for nearly 11 per cent of the total beneficiaries covered nationally, official data tabled in the Lok Sabha showed on Monday.
The Union Territory recorded 1,096 trained and certified candidates in 2023-24 and 11,808 in 2024-25, while no beneficiaries were reported under the scheme in 2025-26, according to the reply of Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to Unstarred Question No. 2472.
The JK figure was the fourth-highest among States and UTs during the period, after Uttar Pradesh with 20,448 beneficiaries, Madhya Pradesh with 17,754 and Himachal Pradesh with 5,724, based on the data provided by the Ministry.
Nationally, 1,18,906 candidates were trained and certified under the CBSP scheme during the three-year period. Of these, 24,153 were trained in 2023-24, 94,183 in 2024-25 and 570 in 2025-26.
The Ministry said the CBSP scheme was implemented across the country, including urban, rural and tribal areas, to provide short-term training, skill development and certification in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The scheme focuses on programmes such as Hunar Se Rozgar Tak, entrepreneurship programmes and tourism awareness programmes, with training delivered through government and empanelled private institutes.
The implementing institutions include Institutes of Hotel Management, Food Craft Institutes and the Indian Culinary Institute, among others.
In Andhra Pradesh, which was the subject of the original parliamentary question, 411 beneficiaries were trained and certified in 2024-25, while no beneficiaries were recorded in 2023-24 or 2025-26. The Ministry said training in the State was conducted by the State Institute of Hotel Management, Tirupati, the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council and other institutions.
The reply, however, did not provide district-wise beneficiary figures or a district-wise list of private and government agencies for Andhra Pradesh in the annexure supplied with the parliamentary answer.
