Jammu Kashmir Records 24.79 Lakh Jan Dhan Accounts, 13.72 Lakh PMJJBY and 31.70 Lakh PMSBY Enrolments: Centre

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 24,78,778 accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), along with 13,72,345 enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and 31,70,291 under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), according to data provided by the Union Ministry of Finance in the Rajya Sabha.

As of July 8, 2026, women accounted for 14,41,402 of Jammu and Kashmir’s PMJDY accounts, compared with 10,37,376 held by men, meaning women represented about 58.2 per cent of the UT’s Jan Dhan accounts. In Ladakh, the total stood at 22,272 accounts, comprising 12,852 male and 9,420 female accounts.

Under PMJJBY, Jammu and Kashmir had 13,72,345 cumulative enrolments, including 7,82,408 male, 4,51,578 female and 1,38,359 classified under ‘Others’. Ladakh recorded 46,131 enrolments, comprising 31,979 male, 13,227 female and 925 under ‘Others’.

Jammu and Kashmir’s PMSBY enrolments stood at 31,70,291, including 19,54,677 male, 11,81,659 female and 33,955 under ‘Others’. Ladakh recorded 90,246 enrolments, of which 60,864 were male, 29,209 female and 173 were classified under ‘Others’.

Nationally, the Union Government reported 58,70,40,707 PMJDY accounts as of July 8, with 25,98,48,349 held by men and 32,71,92,358 by women. Women therefore accounted for about 55.7 per cent of all Jan Dhan accounts nationally, placing Jammu and Kashmir slightly above the national share in terms of women’s participation.

Jammu and Kashmir’s 24.79 lakh PMJDY accounts represent about 0.42 per cent of the national total, while its 13.72 lakh PMJJBY enrolments and 31.70 lakh PMSBY enrolments account for around 0.49 per cent and 0.54 per cent, respectively, of the corresponding all-India totals.

Uttar Pradesh had the largest number of PMJDY accounts at 10.44 crore, followed by Bihar with 6.98 crore and West Bengal with 5.71 crore. Jammu and Kashmir’s total was higher than Himachal Pradesh’s 20.10 lakh accounts but substantially below Punjab’s 1.01 crore and Haryana’s 1.12 crore.

Across India, PMJJBY had 27,90,85,242 cumulative enrolments and PMSBY 58,90,68,320 enrolments as of July 8, the Finance Ministry said. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were among the States with the highest PMJJBY enrolments, while Uttar Pradesh recorded the largest PMSBY enrolment base.

The Ministry also informed Parliament that under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), 59.14 crore loans worth Rs 40.76 lakh crore had been disbursed nationwide from the scheme’s inception to June 26, 2026. Of these, 1.54 lakh loans worth Rs 22,913 crore had been sanctioned under the Tarun Plus category.

Women entrepreneurs accounted for 39.16 crore PMMY loan accounts involving Rs 17.04 lakh crore in disbursements. Category-wise, 9.56 crore loans worth Rs 3.97 lakh crore went to Scheduled Caste borrowers, 3.23 crore loans worth Rs 1.48 lakh crore to Scheduled Tribe borrowers and 16.27 crore loans worth Rs 8.27 lakh crore to Other Backward Class borrowers. The remaining 30.08 crore loans, amounting to Rs 27.05 lakh crore, were extended to borrowers outside these categories.

The cumulative non-performing asset ratio under PMMY, measured against the disbursed amount, declined from 2.58 per cent in March 2023 to 2.10 per cent in March 2024 and remained at 2.10 per cent in March 2025. It stood at 2.16 per cent as of December 2025 on a provisional basis, according to data submitted by lending institutions to the Mudra Portal.

The figures were provided by the Union Ministry of Finance in response to an unstarred question in the Rajya Sabha on July 28, 2026.
