SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Railways has approved the Final Location Survey (FLS) for a proposed railway line connecting Reasi and Poonch, marking a key move to strengthen rail infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per an order issued by the Railway Board on April 8, 2026, Northern Railway has been authorized to carry out the survey for the proposed 190-kilometre route. The estimated cost of the survey has been fixed at Rs 26.41 crore.
The approval comes in response to a proposal submitted by Northern Railway through its letter dated December 10, 2025. The Final Location Survey is an essential step prior to construction, aimed at finalizing the route alignment and assessing technical and feasibility aspects of the project.
Funding for the survey will be drawn under Demand No. 85, Major Head 3001, which covers expenditure related to policy formulation, research, and other miscellaneous functions of Indian Railways, specifically under the “Surveys” head.
The Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link and other senior Railway Board officials have also been notified for further action.
Once implemented, the proposed rail link is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the Pir Panjal region, enhance access to border areas, and support regional economic growth and tourism.
