SRINAGAR: Security forces on Monday launched search operations in forward areas along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba and Rajouri districts following overnight sightings of suspected Pakistani drones, officials said.
According to officials, alert Army personnel detected suspected drone activity in Nandpur near the IB in Samba district and in the Tarkundi-Saaj area near the LoC in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
The Army, assisted by the police and other security agencies, began searches at first light after placing both areas under heightened surveillance. The operation is aimed at ensuring that no weapons, narcotics or other contraband were air-dropped by the suspected drones.
Officials said the searches were continuing at the time of filing this report. No recoveries or arrests had been reported.
The latest incident comes amid a rise in suspected drone activity along Jammu and Kashmir’s border areas over the past week.
