Jammu Kashmir: SEC Publishes Final Panchayat Electoral Rolls 2026; Electorate Rises to 72.24 Lakh

   

SRINAGAR: The State Election Commission (SEC), Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday published the Final Panchayat Electoral Rolls 2026 after completing the annual revision exercise with April 1, 2026 fixed as the qualifying date, paving the way for upcoming panchayat elections across the Union Territory.

The revision process commenced with the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll on March 27, 2026, followed by a 40-day period for filing claims and objections that continued until May 5. The Commission said all submissions received during the period were examined and disposed of by Electoral Registration Officers by May 14 before the publication of the final rolls on May 21.

According to the SEC, the final electoral roll comprises 72,24,131 electors, including 36,62,502 male voters, 35,61,488 female voters and 141 third gender voters. The revised figures reflect a net increase of 2,26,040 voters compared to the previous revision finalised in January 2025, when the electorate stood at 69,98,091.

The Commission said 3,39,384 new voters were added during the exercise, while 1,13,344 names were deleted due to death, shifting, duplication and other admissible reasons. Corrections were made in the particulars of 17,664 voters, and 31,590 voters were transposed.

A total of 5,10,285 forms were received during the revision period and processed by Panchayat Election Booth Officials, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Electoral Registration Officers in accordance with procedures and timelines prescribed by the Commission.

The SEC said awareness campaigns were conducted under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme through print and electronic media, including radio jingles, newspaper advertisements and voter appeals. District authorities also carried out outreach activities using hoardings, mobile awareness vans and other awareness measures.

State Election Commissioner Shantmanu commended the efforts of District Panchayat Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, Panchayat Election Booth Officials, staff of the State Election Commission, the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department and representatives of political parties for the completion of the revision exercise.

The Commission also noted participation by young voters during the enrolment process, contributing significantly to the addition of over 3.39 lakh new electors to the Panchayat Electoral Roll 2026.
