SRINAGAR: Students from Jammu and Kashmir achieved remarkable success at the National Level Eco Hackathon held at the NDMC Convention Centre, Delhi, on 17 December 2024, earning accolades for the Department of School Education, Jammu & Kashmir.
Two students from J&K excelled by securing the top two positions in the national-level Eco-Creativity and Innovation Hackathon. Humaira Showkat from HSS Danow Kulgam won the 1st Prize, while Sheikh Anzar from HSS Fatehgarh Baramulla claimed the 2nd Prize.
Among districts, Pulwama, Samba, Budgam, and Udhampur emerged as top performers in J&K, while students from Baramulla, Kulgam, and Kupwara were recognised for their novel and innovative ideas with awards and presentations.
Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir was honoured for ranking among the top five contributing states/Union Territories nationwide.
The Eco-Creativity and Innovation Hackathon is an initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in collaboration with Amazon Future Engineer and Pi Jam Foundation. It was launched on 5 June 2024, coinciding with World Environment Day.
The Jammu and Kashmir delegation was led by Dr. G.N. Itoo, Director School Education Kashmir, Director School Education Jammu, and the Project Director of Samagra Shiksha J&K. Students, teachers, and principals from selected schools also attended the felicitation ceremony.
The nationwide showcase, held at NDMC Delhi on 17 December 2024, featured 35 top ideas selected from a pool of 6.9 lakh participants.
Key guests included the Secretary of Environment (MoEFCC), the Secretary of Education (GoI), and other dignitaries from participating states.
GN Itoo, Director School Education Kashmir, congratulated the students on their exceptional achievements. He remarked, “We are committed to improving the standards of education in J&K and fostering an innovative ecosystem in our schools so that our students can become job providers in the future instead of job seekers.” (KNO)
