Jammu Kashmir: Teacher Among Two Arrested for Allegedly Sheltering Foreign Militants

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said it has arrested two alleged overground workers linked to the Saifullah group for allegedly providing shelter and logistical support to foreign militants in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district.

An official said police have detained key suspects accused of assisting militants at a hideout in Singhpora, Chatroo. The case has been registered at Police Station Chatroo under FIR No. 03/2026, invoking Sections 61(2), 109, 147 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 13, 16, 18, 19 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and Section 7/27 of the Arms Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar, Naresh Singh (JKPS), said that during a detailed investigation and coordinated operations, police arrested Mashkoor Ahmed, son of Mohammad Ramzan, a resident of Beighpora, Singhpora, Kishtwar, who is a teacher in the School Education Department. He was allegedly directly involved in facilitating the militants’ hideout, police said.

Officials added that the arrest has disrupted key logistical support linked to militant activity in the area.

Earlier, another accused, Manzoor Ahmed, a resident of Bandeyan Naidgam, was also arrested in connection with the case. Police said the investigation is ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider support network involved.

Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated their commitment to a strict approach against anti-national activities, stating that those assisting militants or undermining security will be dealt with under the law.

The police further said they remain focused on maintaining peace and public order in the region and will continue coordinated efforts to neutralise threats to security. (JKNS)
