SRINAGAR: A government school teacher who had been missing since June 5 while on Census duty was found dead in the Ranbir Canal near the Bathra area on Thursday, reports said.
The deceased has been identified as Vikram Chand Sharma, who was posted at Middle School Gurha Jagir.
According to officials, personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, recovered Sharma’s body from the canal following an extensive search operation. The search was launched after his wife lodged a missing person report.
The body has been shifted for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death.
