Speaking to reporters, Dr Farooq Abdullah, said the nation cannot progress until women are granted their due rights. “The time has come to give women their rights. Women constitute 50 per cent of the population and must receive what is due. Parliament should act promptly on the bill to ensure women get their rights,” he said.

“JK is the crown of India, and we will establish a women’s centre here. I have asked for land to be identified for this purpose. We will take all possible steps to support women,” he added.

In response to a query on opposition statements in the Assembly, he said enemies will always exist, but “we will continue our work and take JK out of its problems.” (KNO)
