SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness intermittent rainfall and thundershowers over the next several days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of brief spells of intense and heavy rain at isolated places.
According to the latest weather update issued by the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places on August 11-12, with brief intense showers at a few places, particularly during the forenoon and afternoon hours.
The weather is expected to remain unsettled between August 13 and 16, when rain or thundershowers are likely at many places across J&K, with brief intense showers at isolated locations.
Another spell of rain and thundershowers is likely between August 17 and 19, with a possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at a few places, especially during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The advisory warns that torrential rain or brief intense heavy showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
From August 20 to 22, there is a possibility of light rain or thundershowers at scattered places
Meanwhile, J&K recorded significant rainfall during the preceding 24 hours. Agro Kathua recorded the highest rainfall at 156.5 mm, followed by Jammu with 79 mm, Katra 71.1 mm and Samba 55 mm.
The IMD data showed that temperatures also remained varied across the region, with Jammu recording a maximum of 34.6°C and Srinagar 33.2°C on the previous day.
Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense rainfall, in view of the possibility of flash floods and landslides.
