SRINAGAR: In a significant political development, two former Jammu and Kashmir ministers, Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, rejoined the Congress party on Friday after a brief association with the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).
Both leaders had left Congress in August 2022 to join Azad’s newly formed DPAP, but later resigned from the party and contested the 2024 Assembly elections as independent candidates. Their return to Congress was formalised at the party office, where they were welcomed by senior party officials.
The rejoining of Mohiuddin and Saroori follows a recent trend of other prominent leaders returning to Congress, a move expected to strengthen the party’s position in the region, particularly in south Kashmir where the National Conference secured a majority of seats in the last elections.
Party sources indicate that more leaders are in talks to join Congress in the coming days, signaling a possible shift in the political landscape ahead of future electoral contests
