SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has not recorded any solarised agriculture feeder under the Feeder Level Solarisation (FLS) component of the Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), even as 5,655 feeders have been solarised across the country, according to data placed before the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said that, as of February 2026, 5,655 agriculture feeders had been solarised nationally under Component-C (FLS). States implementing the programme have reported that feeder-level solarisation enabled them to shift night-time electricity supply to daytime, providing farmers an additional seven to eight hours of daytime power supply.
The latest state-wise data, available up to July 31, 2026, shows zero sanctioned and zero installed projects for feeder-level solarisation in Jammu and Kashmir under Component-C. The Union Territory, however, had 5,000 sanctioned and 4,873 installed solar pumps under Component-B (Individual Pump Solarisation).
The data also shows that Ladakh had no installation under either the Individual Pump Solarisation or Feeder Level Solarisation components, although 1,400 pumps had been sanctioned under Component-B, of which 315 had been installed.
Nationally, the PM-KUSUM programme had, by July 31, sanctioned 3,536,602 installations under Component-C FLS and installed 1,654,044. Under Component-B, 1,307,190 pumps had been sanctioned and 1,168,667 installed.
The Ministry said PM-KUSUM is a demand-driven scheme, with capacities allocated on the basis of proposals received from States and Union Territories and their implementation progress. It said procedures had been simplified through revised guidelines issued on January 17, 2024, while outreach and capacity-building workshops, periodic reviews and handholding meetings were being conducted to improve implementation.
On the proposed PM-KUSUM 2.0, the Ministry said the Expenditure Finance Committee meeting was held on April 21, 2026. The parliamentary reply, however, did not provide details on the proposed 45 per cent increase in funding for incorporating Battery Energy Storage Systems to support night-time irrigation.
The Government has set a broader target of expanding decentralised solar capacity through PM-KUSUM, with implementation varying considerably among States. Jammu and Kashmir’s absence of feeder-level solarisation in the latest data indicates that the Union Territory’s progress under the scheme remains concentrated on individual solar pump installations rather than feeder-level projects.
