The main kingpin of the accused who threw petrol bombs on three Kashmiri drivers and critically injured them in Udhampur has not been arrested yet by the police.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Danish Rana told KNS that the police have arrested five men who have carried out the attack on the drivers.

“We have arrested five men, and the kingpin of the attack is absconding. Police are on his hunt, and he will be arrested very soon,” Rana said.

Two Kashmiri drivers – Showkat Ahmad Dar and Zahid Ahmad Bhat- were critically injured after a mob hurled petrol bombs on their truck at Udhampur on the Srinagar–Jammu Highway last week.

The injured have been flown to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi.

The IGP did not reveal further details of the five attackers, saying that they are being interrogated by the police.

“As of now, police cannot reveal whether the men were backed by political parties. We are questioning them and we are sure that all the details of the whole conspiracy,” he said.

On the emerging situation in Jammu province, the IGP said that there was not any abnormal incident after the Udhampur attack.

“After the Udhampur attack, the situation in Jammu, particularly in Udhampur, remained normal,” he said.
