In a statement, Shah said we can never forget those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this nation.

Remembering the day, Shah said, “Indian forces used indiscriminate firing on innocent civilians. The whole locality was burned in vengeance and properties worth billions were destroyed by forces.”

Shah expressed lament that despite passing of 24 years, “the killers are roaming free.”

He said authorities by shielding the culprits of the massacre made it clear that they have no regard for human lives but are only concerned of their chairs.

“We must very well recognize our friends and foes. The killers and their allies can never be our well-wishers,” he said.

Shah further said “forces by carrying out the worst massacres in Kashmir like Gawkadal, Handwara, Kupwara, Kanikadal, Hawal, Shopian, Mash’ali Mohalla, Bijbehara, Hazratbal, Markandal, and hundreds of other killings, made it clear that they are neither bound by any rule of law nor accountable to anyone for their crimes against humanity.”

He appealed the human rights bodies working under the United Nations including Amnesty International and OIC to utilise their offices in bringing to book the perpetrators of these deadly massacres in Kashmir.
