Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir Sunday called for a complete shutdon in Sopore to pay tributes to 55 persons killed on same day in 1993.

“We can never forget those 55 innocent people who were massacred by Indian forces on January 6, 1993. They sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of freedom and our hearts will always remember them,” HCJK chairperson Shabir Shah said in a statement.

Praying for Sopore martyrs, Shah said Indian forces by perpetrating the massacres like Sopore, Gawkadal, Handwara, Kupwara, Hawal, Shopian, Mashali Mohalla, Bihbehara, Hazratbal and others said they (forces) make it clear that they are not bound by any law and are not accountable to their crimes, the statement said.

Appealing international human rights organizations and United Nations to initiate probes in such massacres, Shah said, “UN should hold India accountable for its grave human rights violations in Kashmir and should pressurize it to let the people of Kashmir decide their political future.”
