JCB Driver From Goa Dies in Central Kashmir Mishap

   

SRINAGAR: A 29-year-old JCB driver, who had sustained grievous injuries in a mishap at Dedina area of Budgam on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries at SMHS Hospital Srinagar on Monday morning.

According to reports, the incident occurred while excavation work was underway at Dedina, when the JCB in operation overturned, leaving the driver trapped and severely injured. The victim has been identified as Shah-e-Jahan, son of Jamaluddin Shan, a native of Goa who had been residing in Budgam.

Eyewitnesses said that after the heavy machine turned turtle, locals rushed to the spot and, with the help of rescue personnel, managed to pull the injured driver from the damaged vehicle. He was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar, where doctors admitted him to the trauma ward in critical condition.

Medical sources confirmed that despite the efforts of the attending team, the young man succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings. [KNT]
