Sopore

Various Job Card Holders from Sopore town Friday alleged that Block Development Officer (BDO) and Junior Engineer (JE) of Block Dangarpora are demanding bribe from them for their different works done under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

“For my soling work in Dangarpora block of Sopore town, JE Abul Rashid demanded Rs 15,000 from me as bribe for the release of my payment that amounted to Rs 3 lakhs,” Altaf Ahmed told CNS adding that the said JE while demanding money from the contractors claims that this money goes into the pockets of BDO and Director Rural and Development.

He said even after greasing the palm of the JE, he only released half of the payment in his favour and demanded more bribe for the release of the rest of payment.

Junior Engineer Abdul Rashid while terming these allegations baseless told CNS that he has never demanded bribe from anyone. “Soon after the completion of works under MGNREGA, we release payments instantly without seeking money from anyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, BDO, Abdul Rashid said that he would take action if such kind of thing has occurred. “I tell you with authority that it is not the case and still if it would have happened, I would certainly take action,” he said adding that Director R&D has already taken notice of such complaints.
