SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested one active militant of proscribed outfit JeM from Patushahi area of Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
A police spokesman in a statement said that based on credible information, regarding the movement of terrorists from Sopore to Bandipora, a joint special checkpoint was established by Bandipora Police along with army and CRPF at Patushahi Bandipora.
“During checking, one active terrorist identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan son of Fayaz Ahmad Khan resident of Panzigam Bandipora was arrested,” said the spokesman.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records he was linked with proscribed outfit JeM,” he said.
“Preliminary enquiry reveals that the said terrorist had joined militant ranks recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in Sopore and Bandipora towns. It is pertinent to mention here that on 26/01/2021, the said terrorist managed to escape from a cordon and search operation at Adipora area of Sopore while taking advantage of darkness,” he added.
“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
