Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five persons involved in grenade attacks in Srinagar.
DIG central Kashmir, V K Birdi while addressing a press conference in Srinagar said in pursuance to the investigations of Case FIR No. 02/2020 of PS Nigeen pertaining to a militant attack on January 8, 2020, near Habak Crossing, Srinagar Police today arrested five persons involved in the crime.
He said that the persons arrested have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh, Umar Hamid, Imtiyaz Chikla @Imran, Naseer Mir all residents of Hazratbal and Sahil Gojri of Soura.
“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that they were involved in a recent militant attack at Habak,” he said.
“Moreover it was also learnt that they were involved in planning and executing a militant attack last year near Sir Syed Gate University of Kashmir Hazratbal on 26th of November regarding which a case FIR No. 109/2019 is under investigation,” he said.
“According to the police investigations, they are affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM,” he added.
He said that incriminating materials including arms and other explosive substance were recovered during the course of investigations.
“The recovered incriminating materials including arms and other substances have been taken into case records. Police is also investigating their complicity in other crime incidents,” Birdi said.
Further investigation in the matter is in progress, said DIG Birdi.
