SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to conduct assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

While speaking to a TV Channel he ruled out contesting upcoming Parliamentary polls from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh saying he is presently focused on Jammu and Kashmir.

In an interview with TV9 Network, LG Sinha said Lok Sabha polls are being held in Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the country and full Election Commission is visiting the UT on March 12 to assess the state of preparedness first hand.

Regarding Assembly elections, Sinha assured that they would be held before September, alongside the restoration of statehood at an appropriate time. He clarified that the Election Commission is responsible for conducting Assembly polls, and the government stands prepared whenever they decide.

On the topic of talks with Pakistan, Sinha reiterated the clear stance of the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir administration: no negotiations until Pakistan alters its approach.

Sinha underscored a significant decline in violence and casualties in Jammu and Kashmir, with reduced security force deployment compared to the past.
